Legendary Actress Waheeda Rehman Honored with Prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award Announced By Honorable Minister Anurag Thakur

Actor Waheeda Rehman is the latest Bollywood actor to get honoured with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke award. Last year, it was presented to Asha Parekh.

Legendary actor Waheeda Rehman will get the Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award this year, according to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The eminent performer has appeared in films like Guide and Reshma Aur Shera.

Anurag Thakur, the I&B minister, announced it on Twitter on Tuesday. I feel a tremendous feeling of pride and honor in announcing that Waheeda Rehman ji is receiving the coveted Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award this year for her outstanding contribution to Indian cinema,” he stated.

He continued, “Waheeda ji has received praise from critics for her performances in Hindi films, with Pyaasa, Kaagaz ke Phool, Chaudhavi Ka Chand, Saheb Biwi Aur Ghulam, Guide, Khamoshi, and many others standing out as notable examples.

She has played her roles in her more than five-decade career with the utmost grace, earning her a National Film Award for her part as a clanswoman in the movie Reshma and Shera. Waheeda ji, a recipient of the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awards, is a prime example of commitment, hard effort, and the power of a Bharatiya Nari who can reach the pinnacle of professional success.

“This lifetime achievement award is a fitting tribute to one of the leading ladies of Indian cinema, who has devoted her life to philanthropy and the betterment of society after leaving the world of acting, at a time when the historic Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam has been passed by Parliament. I congratulate her and gratefully extend my regards for her extensive body of work, which forms a vital part of our cinematic heritage, he continued.

Waheeda made her acting debut with the Telugu film Rojulu Marayi (1955). She has featured in many films such as Pyaasa (1957), Guide (1965), Khamoshi (1969), Phagun (1973), Kabhi Kabhie (1976), Chandni (1989), Lamhe (1991), Rang De Basanti (2006), and Delhi 6 (2009) among many others.

Last year, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award was conferred on veteran Bollywood star Asha Parekh for “her exemplary lifetime contribution to Indian Cinema.” The other recipients of the prestigious award include Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan, Gulzar, Pran, Prithviraj Kapoor, Manoj Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, Manna Dey, and Vinod Khanna (posthumously), among others.
