With the release of its prequel spinoff Berlin, the Money Heist franchise (known as La Casa de Papel in Spanish) is finally interacting with the characters of Raquel Murillo (Itziar Ituño) and Alicia Sierra (Najwa Nimri). In March 2023, Money Heist’ Stars Itziar Ituño and Najwa Nimri Return in New ‘Berlin’ Teaser. it was announced that these two police detectives would return to television to play their respective parts from Money Heist.

But the lack of details regarding their place in the timeline quickly gave rise to a number of fan theories and conjectures. Finally, the franchise is addressing it, so we will finally have answers. Money Heist' Stars Itziar Ituño and Najwa Nimri Return in New 'Berlin' Teaser

Fans of Money Heist praised and adored both of the characters. Initially an adversary and investigator, Raquel Murillo later allied herself with the resistance and emerged as the romantic interest of the protagonist, Álvaro Morte, who went by the name of the Professor. At one point in the story, Raquel and her police counterpart Alicia Sierra had a face-to-face confrontation because Raquel had changed her ways by joining the resistance.

In contrast, Alicia Sierra joined the show in the third season as a newcomer to lead the police headquarters following a Bank of Spain heist, which was intended to free Rio from police custody. She ultimately found the Professor’s hiding place with a checkmate because she was more cunning and driven than Raquel ever was. Even better, her formidable work ethic and pregnancy made the tough detective even more formidable. The two women will now work their magic in the prequel Berlin, which essentially chronicles the life and thefts of Pedro Alonso’s character Andrés de Fonollosa, also known as Berlin.

This Time, the Main Heist in “Berlin” Happens in France Rather than Spain

Although the story of Money Heist took place in Spanish cities, Berlin will transport us directly to the romantic city of Paris, France. Although it will be entertaining to witness a brutal Berlin in his ethically grey, poetic, and capricious state before his impending death, it is unclear how this will fit in with the fact that both Alicia Sierra and Raquel Murillo were Spanish police officers. Since Berlin is a prequel series, it will undoubtedly take place in the past, but we are not yet sure how this chronological and geographic gap will be addressed.

Check out the latest teaser for Berlin, which stars the two actresses, below. Berlin is scheduled to debut globally on Netflix on December 29, 2023.
