Rohit Bal, 62, has reportedly been in and out of rehab and hospitals for alcohol abuse and consequent health problems. In November last year, Bal was admitted to Medanta Hospital in a critical condition and was visited by old friend Arjun Rampal, as per reports.

“Gudda is not doing well at all. November found him on the verge of death. In the Indian Fashion Awards in 2006 as well as the International Fashion Awards in 2001 and 2004, he was named “Designer of the Year.” He was named Lakme Fashion Week’s grand finale designer in February 2012. Time Magazine dubbed him India’s Master of Fabric and Fantasy.

In an interview, the designer described himself as a “traditionalist” and claimed not to consider trends when creating new designs. In the world’s most prestigious cities, such as London, Paris, New York, Singapore, and Moscow, Rohit Bal presented fashion shows. In 2005, Rohit Bal launched his first restaurant, “Veda,” as part of his culinary ventures.

Born in Srinagar on May 8, 1961, Rohit Bal started his professional career in 1986 by establishing Orchid Oversea Pvt. Ltd. alongside his brother. In 1990, he debuted his own collection. After graduating from St. Stephens College, he went to the National Institute of Fashion Technology in Delhi to study fashion.
