Renowned Malayalam filmmaker Alphonse Puthren has declared that he is changing his career route after learning that he has autism spectrum disorder. Director Alphonse Puthren declares, “I am stopping my cinema theatre career,”.
The director discussed his decision to leave the world of movie theatres, citing worries that his health would make him a burden to others. He did, however, reassure his admirers and supporters that he will keep making music, videos, and short films, with an emphasis on using OTT platforms to distribute content.
In an open Instagram post, Alphonse Puthren discussed his personal battle with health problems and his delayed diagnosis, which he believes may have caused a lapse in his film projects.
He is resolved not to say goodbye to the entertainment industry in spite of this profound realisation, promising to keep making his audience laugh.
The director’s note for “Premam” stated, “I am ending my cinematic theatre career.” I discovered yesterday that I have autism spectrum disorder on my own. I want to avoid burdening other people. I’ll keep making music videos, short films, and as much content as possible on OTT.
Although I don’t want to stop going to the movies, I’m stuck with it. I don’t want to commit to anything I can’t fulfil. Life can be unpredictable and twist like an interval punch when one’s health is weak.
The heartfelt post quickly caught the attention of netizens, who flooded it with supportive comments and well-wishes for the director. Renowned actor Sreejith Ravi urged Alphonse to seek professional help and return to filmmaking, saying, “Dear brother… I believe you can still entertain us with your films. See a specialist, please. Please get some professional help. Come back.”
Another concerned netizen emphasised the importance of a professional diagnosis, stating, “Please get a diagnosis from a professional. Mere internet research will not confirm anything. I love your filmmaking and would love it if you could continue, but if you don’t want to, that’s still your decision, and it will be respected.”
Meanwhile, Alphonse Puthren’s last directorial endeavour was the film ‘Gold,’ featuring Prithviraj Sukmaran and Nayanthara in the lead.
