Every film business has enduring classics that have earned the fans’ approval. Everyone has a special connection to these films, so revisiting them could be painful for some. Chandramukhi 2 review, starring Rajinikanth, Jyotika, and Nayanthara, is one such movie that has withstood the test of time. The sequel was created by the previous film’s director, P Vasu, after more than ten years. Has ‘Chandramukhi 2’ been able to win over everyone’s admiration? Let’s investigate!
The plot of “Chandramukhi 2” is taken from its forerunner, which was a remake of “Manichithrathazhu” by Mohanlal and Shoban. The daughter of Radhika Sarathkumar elopes with her husband, incurring the anger of the family. There is no support from her side because of the intercaste nature of their union. Sadly, her daughter and son-in-law perished in a horrible accident, leaving behind two children. They have a caretaker named Pandian (Raghava Lawrence).
The tragedies that Radhika’s family has experienced in their lifetimes have been numerous. As a result, a spiritual guide instructs them to worship their family deity. For the pooja to be effective, she had to invite her grandkids as well. The family visits the palace in Vettaiyapuram, which is well-known for its legend. It’s the place where Ganga (Jyotika), who had split personalities, acted like the dancer Chandramukhi. The Chandramukhi and Vettaiyan ghosts are in charge of Vadivelu’s palace. The plot revolves around what happens to Radhika and her family.
The tale of “Chandramukhi” is still vivid in everyone’s memory. Because of the performances of Rajinikanth and Jyotika, it has a devoted following. The movie was remade in other languages and became one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of 2005. It is debatable whether the franchise will continue if there is a sequel in 2023. Many directors have been heard to say, “We shouldn’t touch classics.”
In this instance, P Vasu not only borrowed from the past but also lacked originality in a 2005 narrative. Imagine Raghava Lawrence and Vadivelu attempting the same slapstick humour from the old movie in 2023. The prequel heavily incorporated humour. Because of Vadivelu, you occasionally laugh in this situation. But in all other respects, the humour was ridiculous.
Underwritten dialogue is a problem. Lawrence claims to be Pandian and to be the stylish guardian of the two kids. You can anticipate what the remainder of the movie will be like if this rhyme pattern is what they’re going for. Another movie that followed the ‘5 songs, 3 fights’ formula was ‘Chandramukhi 2’. They are compelled to participate in a plot that is already plagiarised from other horror comedies. The issue is that “Chandramukhi 2” is neither a comedy nor a scary movie.
P Vasu has made numerous attempts to bring back memories of “Chandramukhi,” but each time it comes off like a poorly produced television soap opera. In essence, the follow-up is “Chandramukhi,” but with different performers, garish special effects, actors who exaggerate their roles, and subpar music.
The first half of Raghava Lawrence’s performance is excessive. It’s so much that your brain starts to spin. Lakshmi Menon plays a substantial role in the movie and gave a passable performance. On the other side, Kangana Ranaut has a lengthy cameo. Her Bharatanatyam performance drew a lot of criticism, and those criticisms are still valid after watching the film. The cast as a whole doesn’t display any particularly strong or impressive acting.
